March SAT Math Thread

this one was set up to trap you. a common trick answer was r = 10p

You have to make sure you’re using the right numbers. A value of p = 20 would give you 20%, but you’re ACTUALLY multiplying by 0.2, thus the value is 100 times less.

so divide by 100 on both sides of that above answer and you get r/100 = p/10, or 10r = p

wanderyonder: you’re such a hard a** i wish i could be like you.

p does not equal 2. It equals 200.
It said p percent. So 200%, or 2.0 multiplied by 50 equals 100.

was 10r=p answer choice E?

@slalgen lol, i can’t tell if that’s a compliment or not…

the trick to do well on the SATs isn’t to be good at learning. it’s to know what the hell these stupid test makers are trying to trick you with.

^yes, i think so.

@ hotinpursuit - that’s exactl what i’m saying

i got 10r=p, too.

p is 200 PERCENT, when multiplying, you put it in decimal form, 2

10r = p was d

@ silence
so r = 20, p = 200
so 10r = p

What’s well-rounded slaglen? O:

Umm, no you don’t. 200 percent = 2. Working backwards, you’d have us believe “p” equals 2. Thus, it would be 2 percent, which is clearly incorrect.

being socially and educationally inclined. it seems way to hard for people to only be one :)

For the squares question…im pretty sure that the anwser is 800. i had done a similar problem in my math class. u can simply move the smallest square to the corner of the largest square, and then u can see that the small one is 1/4 of the large one.

Nice false dichotomy you’ve got there, slaglen.

^^
The answer is 800…

Slaglen just keep it to yourself and everyone just stop feeding the fire. no need to go off topic.

Kameron, I liked your use of dichotomy ;).

I thought it was 3 million in profit (7 million minus 4 million) :S

Thank you. :slight_smile: If only I’d remembered chagrin on the SAT…
