Hey everyone. I recently completed my freshman year at Marist College (in Poughkeepsie, NY). I am from the Bronx, NYC but I live with my uncle during the school year because he is 20 min away from Marist. On weekends, I drive back to the Bronx most of the time as I dont go out to bars and parties. I am a Pre Med student and my goal is to hopefully get into Med School. After my first year at Marist, my gpa is a 3.1. In order to afford Marist, I have to work on campus 4 days a week and driving to and from school can be tough, especially during harsh winters. If I transferred to Hunter I could live at home, and focus solely on my school work, which would result in me getting better grades. However, Marist is probably the better school, their quality of education really seemed great during my first year. SO my question is, would my med school app look better with a lower gpa from Marist, or a higher gpa from Hunter? I really do enjoy my time on campus at Marist but life can get really stressful as a commuter living in my uncle's basement.

3.1 isn’t going to get you any looks at med school.
In my opinion, neither are great choices if you are considering med school. But if you don’t have a shot at med school, better think of a backup plan after sophmore year.

Higher GPA at Hunter. If you look at the SAT range for both, they are about the same

Higher GPA at Hunter is better. Your GPA is more important than where you went to school in most cases anyway.
