I read in a post that marketing in NYU is a "joke". If it is, I would definitely drop it right now. The amount of money and the essays for NYU would not be worth it.

Can I get some feedback on this?

Can I get some feedback on this?

Five most popular majors:
15% drama and dramatics/theater arts, 14% liberal arts and sciences/liberal studies, 12% business, management, marketing, and related support services, 3% cinematography and film/video production, 3% economics

Looks to me like 12% of the NYU population is willing to spend money on the joke. Maybe you need to do a little more researce before you eliminate the school from your list.

the thing is that the 12% business, management, marketing, and related support services emcompasses other business majors that i know NYU is strong for such as finance and int'l business.

so i am not quite sure what to think of that.

i take the comment about nyu's marketing being a joke with a grain of salt but NYU's lack of financial aid is making me wonder whether it is worth it even to apply to the school esp. for me, it is going to be reach.

If you are interested in NYU, I think you should go for Stern and do a double major which is very easy to do there I think. Many students there do a double major. You can do a double major in finance and marketing, which is a very good combination. That way you can follow your interest and also get your money's worth! I would say going to Stern and not doing finance is not AS much worth it, because if you're going there you should take advantage of the best programs possible!

Twilight........you wouldn't apply because it is a financial reach? or an admit reach? Unless you are deciding about ED why worry at this point? Make the application and see how much funding you get. What other schools are you considering?

financial and admit reach but then again i haven't received my recent SAT score and i rather not think too much about it right now.

i am worry because i handed the recommendation form to my counselor and teacher already. if i want to add/drop school, i don't want to do it the last minute. why in the world i did it three months in advance, i have no idea...

the only privates i am considering right now are cornell, nyu, and boston u. and four UCs. i know it would be near impossible to beat the instate tuition but i would always regret it if i don't even try and apply.

but thanks for the feedback.

hazmat you have no idea what you're talking about

twilight, out of all of Sterns Majors, marketing is seen as the worst department and I have heard it being a "joke" many times.

granted, many people double major with marketing, but don't have it be your only major. (majors are only 4 classes, so its really easy to double)

are you in Stern?? What about a double major of Marketing and Psychology?

mattistotle.....thanks for the assessment. It seems I know very little compared to you. I take it you are a Stern student and know first hand about the program.....and must be double majoring. Perhaps you can share your academic plan with us.....and where the OP should look for a marketing program.

any ideas of what to double major with marketing to get the best out of nyu?

with marketing being seen as the worst department, how are the alumni network and job connections?

are you allow to double outside of your school? difficult? i am toying with the idea of doubling with communications or, similar to kcirsh, psychology.

and a thank you to mattistotle.
i rather know about nyu's marketing department now than after i've applied; i need to reassess the prons and cons of applying to nyu now.

im applying to communications...and they said u cant double major with stern or even minor..but u can take classes..i dont know if thats true for CAS major too or just steinhardt

Nope, you can do one major in Stern and one major in NYU. They are changing it this year.

You should do finance + marketing. Just my opinion - but there's many other cheaper, good marketing schools. I just wouldnt want you to be in debt for the rest of your life...

lol. i don't want to be in debt for the rest of my life either. that defeats the whole purpose of earning good money.

do you have any suggestions on good, cheaper (or one that givees good financial aid), marketing school?
