How is Marquette viewed? I know that it is 84 on the USNEWS but is it better than that? Iowa is like 71.

That’s a great question because the answer is purely qualitative - everyone will have their own opinion. My impression is that as a university it’s well-regarded in the Midwest but may not be well-known in other parts of the country. It is, however, highly regarded as a Jesuit university. It also (I believe) has a very loyal alumni network.

And for specific programs (engineering being one) it is highly-regarded. My son will study engineering and I have no concern for his job prospects in the Midwest. But if he wanted to move eventually to Seattle or Phoenix, we might not be looking at Marquette.

i see. how is the business program viewed?

The MU name holds a fair amount of recognition in the Midwest. Its Bio-engineering and Physical Therapy programs are highly regarded and very difficult to get into. I think the business program is well accepted in the Chicago area job market because of the strong alumni base. On the east coast I think the school is more known for its basketball program since they play in the Big East Conference.

" It is, however, highly regarded as a Jesuit university. It also (I believe) has a very loyal alumni network."

Never doubt the value of any Jesuit Alumni network… our decision to send/pay tuition at Jesuit HS for Goskids has been paid back in spades (not only with the fabulous education) but with the Jesuit connection as they have gone on to college, internships …and not only in the Midwest area …
