I don't know if everyone got it, or just the students that lived relatively close, but with our acceptance letter, we got an invitation to attend the Marquette vs. Notre Dame basketball game on March 6. Obviously, Notre Dame is one of Marquette's biggest rivals, so these tickets are normally pretty hard to come by. I would highly encourage anyone who wants to get a taste of what it's like to be a Marquette student during basketball season to attend. The Marquette student section is amazing, and the games are a blast!

Oh my goodness, I thought for sure the tickets would be for Rutgers or South Florida or some such! Exciting.

When my d got the acceptance letter and I saw the flyer on the game I had to laugh since she is considering both schools (pending financial aid). Let’s hope Marquette wins and it’s a great game! Should be alot of fun!

Maybe Marquette will play better than they did against DePaul. Its a little sad to see this once great program losing to another once great program.

Must have been having a bad day. They have lost by two points or less to some top 25 teams as well.

Brutus, MU is still a great program!
For anyone who is a college BB fan come to the MU/ND game if you can. The Bradley Center will be rocking!
I always love beating our snobby Catholic rivals.
My hatred for ND increased one thousand fold when my son was deciding between ND and MU. Knowing both his parents had gone to MU, the admissions person proceeded to call MU second class and state that MU would be sending a limo to get our son to go there but at ND he would be just one of many gifted students.

Notre Dame snobby? You sound bitter and vindictive. Now is that the Jesuit way? I would think with your Jesuit education and background, you would see the value of Notre Dame. Maybe you have never been there, but there is a significant difference between the two schools. Its not for everyone and neither is Harvard. Marquette has its own values and does not have to call other names. I should not have to remind any one who went to MU of that. Last year incoming first year students were offered two tickets to see a game against USF. It was not worth the cost of parking.

Keymom doesn’t sound bitter to me for relaying an account of obvious elitism.

Bitter is not the word I would use Brutus. My son was very conflicted as to where to go to school. We toured the campus and it was there that the admissions counselor made that remark. We thought it was a beautiful school and had much to offer.
My son decided he wanted to go to a school that had a more diverse population and perhaps being told he was just one of many didn’t make the best impression.
He also decided he would probably get a great job with an education from MU and not be 80,000+ in debt.
He got a great job with a great salary and a great education.
I still can’t stand ND, never could. It has to do with basketball rivalries and their opinion that they are far superior than other Catholic Universities adn their students…not such a Christian attitude either.

I have to agree with keymom. My daughter is at Notre Dame. My husband and I are both graduates of Marquette. There is definitely an elitist attitude that pervades Notre Dame and is something that we will never get used to. She loves ND and we don’t regret sending her there but we can really do without the attitude. I am not trying to “stir the pot” but there is validity in what was mentioned.

Interesting comments about ND. I get a similar reaction when I tell people that both my children attend a private university. Could it be that those that don’t have are spiteful of those that have? I have been told by UW-M grads that MU grads have an attitude that they are superior. I guess it all depends on if you are looking in or looking out. Maybe I am on the wrong thread. This is the one for just MU cheerleaders.

Where are the MU fans who called ND students and fans snobby now? What a great game yesterday. It was a pleasure to watch the over rated Golden Eagles go down in flames. Out coached and out played. Can anyone in Milwaukee say NIT? I am enjoying the last laugh for this season, but maybe Marquette will play ND again in the BE tournament. All the best to my MU friends. Better luck next time. Your “Snobby” friend and father of a MU student, Brutus

Sorry brutus, the Warriors are a lock for the NCAA. First time your Notre Lamers won in Milwaukee since 1994. MU however, has kicked your butts at that pit you call a home court last year and two years before that.
I’ll take our enthusiastic coach who took a team projected to fininsh 12th in the Big East to 5th place any day over your coach who can’t get his teams to the NCAA.
Just because you won doesn’t make you guys any less snobby.
At least your son wised up and came to MU

Wow…I haven’t seen anything like this from a parent in all the time I have been on CC…makes me wonder if we have a ■■■■■…if not…

Brutus, I sincerely hope that your child has more maturity than you are demonstrating.

Perhaps the decision by your child to attend MU was indeed a reflection of that maturity and also the humility that you seem to lack.

It wasn’t my first inclination to dignify brutus’ post with a reply but since it’s already been done…

brutus I have to wonder what it’s like for your kid knowing he’s attending a school that his old man is so proud and happy to call second-rate.

marquette will probably get in the tourney, or do very well in the NIT. i wish i would have gone, its gonna be tough having to root against ND if i go to MU, since i’ve always been an irish fan. Buzz williams did a lot considering he lost his three best players. seriously though, MU is a better program probably, and ND will get in the tournament, but they’re lucky they did.

What tournament will Marquette play in? There is going to be a NCAA basketball tournament down here in New Orleans. If Marquette makes our tournament, we would love to go to a game! Are tickets available for the public, or at least admitted students?

Beastman, when did I call MU second rate? You did. I have never complained when I pay for my son’s tuition. I really like MU, and I am very proud of my son for going to Marquette. It is a great choice. If you care, I am not an ND grad and I work in the trenches for a living to support my family. Both my kids go to Catholic schools. I don’t think anyone would ever describe me as arrogant or immature. If MU fans are going to generalize ND as being a school for snobs, I think I will take my shots when I can. I love Notre Dame. GO IRISH.

Montegut - by all accounts it will be the NCAA since it is expected that at least 8 teams from the Big East will get in and Marquette was 5th in the Big East standings. Now what can happen is if they win games in the tournament their seeding will go up and if they loose the first game their seeding will go down. This will decide the region they are going to play at. Tickets for the first and second round are easy to get. So if they happen to play in one of the first two rounds in your area you can probably just go to the venue and buy the tickets.

If MU would play in New Orleans, there is a chance they wouldn’t use their full allotment of tickets. I would call the MU ticket office and see if they have any tickets available. Milwaukee is also hosting the NCAAs and our venue is already sold out.
