I received a Marquis Scholarship in the mail the other day (I was shocked and excited, since my SAT score was only 1330!!) and Lafayette is definitely one of my first choices. However, it really comes down to how much financial aid I get. I saw on the website that if you are rewarded a scholarship, you get aid up to demonstrated need. So, really, does the scholarship actually help significantly? My EFC is above the scholarship amount I received. I haven't gotten my official package yet, but I am hopeful. Does anyone have any experience with this? What are the benefits of the scholarship?

Thanks!:)

well, in our case, the 24K helped because our grant aid, work study, and loans amounted to 21600. The scholarship, then, made the costs slightly less than the FA package would have done and it eliminated my D’s loans. Still, 24K barely puts a dent in the COA. Whether it’s enough to make Lafayette viable will be determined by the FA package that arrives.

The scholarship definitely helps. The financial aid package is mostly loans. If my D had gotten the scholars we could probably swing it, but with only a $8700 grant and several loans we just can’t do it. She wants to go to graduate school so saddling her with that much debt out of the gate won’t work. She got several scholarships at other schools, but we love Lafayette. It is my alma mater. The best school ever…

Does anyone knows if these Marquis scholarships are just for domestic US students? Or they also include international students?

ALL students (domestic and international) are considered for the Marquis Fellowship and Marquis Scholarship.
