I've narrowed down my choice between Northeastern and Maryland for Computer Science. Maryland seems to be ranked slightly higher for CS, but that could be name recognition since Northeastern is so new. Maryland is also slightly cheaper, but we can afford both.

I really love the atmosphere of Northeastern and Boston in particular, but I wonder if the academics at Maryland (and the lower cost) beat it out.

From what I’ve seen, UMD far exceeds Northeastern in terms of strength of the comp sci program. Take a look at the size of the faculty at both schools, and then go into Testudo for UMD and look at the course offerings vs. Northeastern’s. I’m thinking that a “new” program may not be quite as solid as an established and known “older” program, but of course I’m biased toward UMD. Certainly for the price difference, I’m not sure it would be worth it.

D1 really wanted to go to Boston for undergrad, but for all the right reasons chose UMD. She has loved it, and is heading to Boston for grad school ;)

Maryland is a LOT cheaper. My D was was Accepted to both. D visited both. We are from Boston. She picked UMD, and cost was not her deciding factor.
