Mass Art - summer pre-college

My daughter wants to attend this program as a commuter. Has anyone else out there done that? What do you miss out on that you would get as a resident?

Also, how is the program itself? Did you learn a lot?

I attended the RISD pre-college program this past summer, so while I cannot comment exactly on MassArt's program, I can safely say that commuting to a pre-college program just does not have the same feeling as being on campus 24/7. Being at RISD for 6 weeks over the summer was one of the greatest experiences I've had; I cannot imagine going home after classes...simply not the same sort of feeling. It's so much fun to immerse yourself into an artistic environment.

So I'd definitely recommend not commuting there and staying. Again, I'm not familiar with how MassArt works, but RISD allowed pre-college students to go home on weekends if desired, so that always gives her a nice opportunity to come home. But if you want the full experience, I'd say stay there. I never left the RISD campus once besides for a few RISD sponsored trips to Boston and such.
