Massachusetts area colleges...

Which is the best choice among these? I'm currently a junior, looking to double major in journalism and econ, with a pre-law track as well, if that helps at all :)

Boston U
Northeastern
Boston College
Umass Amherst
Tufts

I'd appreciate your input or advice. Thanks :)

Some of these are more “different” from each other rathern than better. Most people tend to categorize them this way:

Boston College/Tufts
Boston University/Northeastern University
Umass Amherst

You really should visit the schools and see which you think you are where you would fit in. The schools on the same level really aren’t going to be better than one another, but you may find that you like one more than another.

You can get a good education at any of these colleges. The only difference is how much you are willing to pay. I went to Tufts undergrad and it was OK. Nothing special academically. I went on to MIT grad school and it was a whole other world. I’ve done research with people at BU, NE, and Umass. I’ve been most impressed with UMass, they have some real talent there.

The gold standard US News and World Reports rankings lists the following within the top 50 for National Universities and top 50 LACs within an hour of Boston:

Harvard
MIT
Brandeis
Boston College
Wellesley
Holy Cross
