I chose MIT over both Yale and Stanford because I love Cambridge/Boston. Stanford is too close to home, and I just didn't like New Haven. While Yale and Stanford both have AMAZING campuses, I chose MIT because of the research opportunities. I want to do stuff with the brain, and it just seemed to be the perfect fit. (They're building a new brain and cog building...which is gonna open August 2005!)

Now, I didn't choose MIT right off the bat. I considered a lot of things, including lifestyle, fin. aid, students, academics, ECs, etc...But, MIT is in a college town whereas Yale and MIT are not. Personally, I have many more opportunties at MIT...the MGH is right next door and so is Harvard, for the liberal artsy things. I can't really explain it (sorry!), but I ultimately chose MIT because it just felt right.

(FYI: My dad had been pushing Stanford, and mom...Yale, but that didn't influence my decision or anything.)

Have you visited them?
