Master List of Music School Final Decisions, Fall 2013

Congratulations to BrassMom17 and son.

In case you missed my earlier post, daughter has decided to attend the University of Oklahoma for a Bachelor of Music Arts in flute.

D will attend Harvard-NEC dual degree program. Harvard AB 2017. NEC MM 2018. Undecided on major at Harvard but the program requires you to take 50% of the requirements for a music major anyway: 7 out of 13 courses (15 for honors), unless you test out of some music theory. Majoring in jazz voice at NEC. I think most of the students in the program have been classical. Some jazz instrumentalists over the years. She believes she may be the first jazz vocalist in the Harvard-NEC program, but not sure about that.

I’ve never heard of a jazz performer, let alone a vocalist, at the Harvard NEC program. Congrats to your daughter!

Son decided on Peabody.

Amazing JazzVocal with your daughter, that is a feat. Like GH, I have never heard of someone getting into that in Jazz, and it is incredibly hard to get into as they only take 1 or 2 students each year I hear, so that is something to celebrate, indeed;).

I know a student in the double degree program with Harvard who is studying jazz piano at NEC as well as composition. It was the reason he chose Harvard over a number of other wonderful choices - to have access to the jazz department at NEC.

@SpiritManager: jazz piano and composition at Harvard-NEC…Chase?

jazzvocals- I PMed you. My son is an entering Sophomore at NEC. Two boys who he was in an ensemble with last year were in Jazz/CI at NEC are also in the joint program at Harvard.

Feel free to message me with any questions. I am local and can answer questions about Harvard as well.

Thanks for the congratulations. The CC forums are very supportive.

I am eager to hear what any of you have to say about Harvard, NEC or Berklee for that matter, since my D knows people at all three schools and expects to play with any of them.

I need to get a few more posts to be able to respond to PMs. So include an email if you want. But a few more of these one or two line posts and I will be there. ;)

Congratulations to AliT0173 and daughter, jazzvocals and daughter, and Comp2013 and son.

jazzvocals, my daughter starts her MM in the CI department at NEC this year studying double bass and voice. Perhaps they will perform together in the next couple of years, since I understand the CI and Jazz departments frequently work together. I have a hunch they will both be studying with the same applied voice teacher.

Thank you, BassDad. Daughter enrolled today and is so excited about the classes she will be taking and the options she has. Congrats to your daughter as well!

Can I bump this thread for Fall 2014 acceptances for undergraduate vocal performance? Can someone who is better at this than me start a new thread?
