Master List of Scholarship Awards (Class of '11)

DS got a $2500 renewable Presidential scholarship from UT-Austin to go along with his $4000 renewable Engineering scholarship. Since tuition and fees are just about $8500, it's a pretty nice scholarship. DS also got a $250 local scholarship and a $500 local scholarship. (Don't laugh, guys. ;) It's not a lot of money, but it'll make a dent in those textbooks for the first year...) Edit: It doesn't actually look like he'll use that scholarship at UT, though. He's definitely leaning towards Rice.

My son received a College Scholar Award scholarship of $17,000/year (along with generous grants) from the College of Wooster. He also received a $1,200 Trustees Scholarship and various grants from The Ohio State University (in-state, so it goes a long way). He was admitted to the Scholars program at OSU, which helps to make the flagship state school seem a little smaller.

The Case award was good, but it still left about $12,000 in loans, as the total COA is a bit over $46,000/year.

I think the boy is leaning towards Ohio State - he'd graduate with a small amount of debt, and he gets to spend Saturdays in The Horsehoe. Plus, he intends to audition for the Best Da*n Band In The Land, so maybe those Saturdays will be spent on the field. :)

Quick stats: 32 ACT, 3.7 u/wGPA, small number of ECs with lots of involvement in each, from a rural school in Ohio.

D got:
University of Georgia (Honors program) - $1000 per year (in addition to Hope Scholarship)
Brandeis - $15,000 per year
Boston University (Honors program) - $17,500 per year

She's going to UGA. Even with the money from the other schools, we can't quite swing $25,000 per year (and don't qualify for any FAFSA). She's happy with UGA, though. Maybe she'll go to Boston to for Grad school!

S got
University of South Carolina - $2000 per year McKissick scholarship, in-state tuition for OOS, invitation to Capstone Scholar program

Stats: 3.9 weighted 3.4/.5 unweighted. 1400/1600 SAT, 32 ACT, 9 AP's (which means he'll come in with almost all gen ed requirements done; one semester, at the most, to finish those up, which is good since he's double majoring) reasonable EC's and work, lots of community service.

5,000 WSU (WA)
something from American (her comment, "not very impressive")
and she picked Dickinson--no merit aid, but a barely doable need-based award that leaves us paying about the same as we would have with any of the merit offers.

She also has about 8,000 in outside scholarships for the first year only, and she's still awaiting news on a few more that would help with books and such.

She was a strong all-around candidate with great recommendations and GPA, nice essays, lots of leadership, excellent ECs including several national awards, pretty darn good pianist (but no plans to major in music), two AP foreign languages and plans to major in a third language, five other APs, and medium to medium-high test scores compared to the applicant pools at most of her schools.
