Hi! I have been admitted by both Boston University and University of Wisconsin - Madison to pursue a master degree in economics.
I am an international student and I do not have a good understanding of these two universities. The biggest difference i know is that the program in Wisconsin is two year and in Boston is one year.
If you can see this information, please guide me to make a better choice! Thanks!
Employment. And there will be more advantages when i go back to my home country if i can get an experience working in America.
But is seems very difficult for a Master in Econ to find jobs in America, especially a foreigner. From this aspect, maybe I need choose a university which has a higher reputation in America?
Yes, Bu is more famous. But UW Madison has a higher ranking. So i want to get some native suggestions.
Do either of them list the jobs that the masters students get? I thought the UW program was created as a money maker for the department because there were unlimited numbers of international students who want to use a US- based masters as a stepping stone to US PhD program.
A masters in economics is not a common degree for Americans to get. Economics majors who want a masters and want to go into business usually get an MBA. If they are more interested in research or academia they get a PhD. I have worked work with many PhD economists and many people with MBAs but I can’t recall anyone with a masters in economics. Given that, it’s really hard to say which school is better. You should ask each school about job placements for people coming out of their masters programs and see which has opportunities that appeal to you more. Everything will of course be more difficult given your international status.
