Masters and PhDs in Economic History

As an undergrad, I majored in Economics and History. I'd like to eventually be a history professor, and I think I'm most interested in economic history. I, however, would rather be faculty in a history department instead of an economics department. As a result, I think I'd rather get my Ph.D. from a history program.

So my question (in addition to a request for any advice) is - Would it beneficial to earn a masters in economics before going into history? You see, I have a year to kill before I could even enter a Ph.D. program in history (due to geographical limitations), and I was wondering if I should just find a job, or start a master's program in economics?

So any advice or comments are welcome. Thanks.

Or you can always get a masters or phd in economic history a few top universities offer that lse is one that comes to mind.
