I dont know exactly what I want to major in, but definitely either pre-med or biology

-4.0 Unweighted GPA, not sure weighted. None of the websites i found would work
-N/A class rank but easily top 10-5% physics and biomed. Everything else probably 20%. Except for math, thats like 50% lol

ECs
-School Key Club Leader
-Campus Ministry President
-Biomed Club, ill be president next year
-Took a pre-med course in Adelphi, did extremely well in the class and got all credits for it. Was very fun
-participated in an investin program for pre-vet in London. Took this mainly to see if I wanted to be a vet and ultimately my answer is no. Was advised against putting this down because it makes me look privileged, even though I paid for a lot of it myself
-Speaking of, I work in a restaurant as a busser, babysit a bunch of kids, and teach a summer tennis camp. Programs dont pay themselves
-CPR certified under the AHA, thanks to Adelphi for that
-Starting a Christian Leadership Program for elementary schoolers in my home parish
-National Honor Society
-Spanish Honor Society
-Im applying for multiple summer pre med internships including HOPP

Essay: Im planning mine to be pretty strong, gonna revolve somewhat around devoting my life to my bio passion, what morality means to me (hence all my campus ministry stuff), and contributing something to the world much greater than myself etc etc etc

LoR: Right now im getting my recs from my Human Body Systems and Physics teachers for said summer programs, both teachers know me pretty well so good

As for schools, im honestly not too sure. But I definitely have a limit in distance- it couldn’t be further than a 10 hour drive or 2 hour plane from NY, unless i can get some crazy scholarship. It also absolutely can not be in the middle of a bustling city. I need my trees, my campus, my walk space you get it. I stayed at UCL for my investin program and absolutely hated the dorming enviornment

I know i left it kinda vague since im only a junior, that being said i don’t expect complex answers, but anything helps!

Are you saying your family can spend $75,000 a year (costs go up each year) or that their income is $75,000?

How can you be top 20% of the class with a 4.0? What is it out of?

Idk the entire classes grades. Im basing it off my friends grades (who are in the class and in the nicest way possible i hate saying this not as accomplished).

I dont wanna over exaggerate myself. I have a 95% average which translates to a 4.0. I know a kid whos smarter than me but other than him I do better than everyone I talk to id say 80% of the time. Except math ofc lol

If I understand what you are saying, you are basing your class rank on how your friends and peers are doing? Is that correct?

Premed is not a major, it is an intention. Biology is a major.

Will you be meeting with your guidance counselor this year to discuss the college process?

Ok, so everyone can be the most helpful I suggest correcting your gpa to a 95/100 which gives a better sense. If a 100 is the best grade possible then it is different than if you have a 4.0/4.0

I am not sure what your family will pay for college, so I will begin by suggesting the SUNY schools.

Cost is not an issue dont worry. My grandmother is very fortunate and would pool anything to my education.

Got it thank you!

Ok good, so I would be sure to put at least 2 suny schools on your list. Another good school would be Pitt.

It seems you are interested in medical school or some type of graduate degree. I would try to keep undergrad costs low because med school and graduate programs are expensive.

I heard suny schools are bad though. Also just looked up pitt, its decent

SUNY schools are not bad. Where did you hear that? One of my kids attended a SUNY school and went on for her masters at an Ivy. Her advisor told her that she came in very well prepared.

Pitt is more than decent. It is an extremely strong university. Another school to consider is the University of Delaware

I am confused about your class rank. It is not calculated per class.

I would not base your evaluation on schools simply by “ranking” or name recognition. Many of the SUNYs, despite the somewhat negative connotation the SUNY moniker has for whatever reason, are very strong – especially Binghamton, Stony Brook, and Buffalo. And Pitt is a very good school in its own right. If you go into the process only thinking about prestige and name recognition, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

If money isn’t a barrier, I would also look into schools like Minnesota Twin Cities, Rutgers, and Penn State (for publics)

Also adding TCNJ and the U of Vermont. Maybe a school such as Wake Forest (it will be expensive and could be a reach- not sure).

Again, with an interest in some type of professional school it is wise to keep undergraduate costs low. Almost every school can get you to medical school or any other type of graduate program.

What schools are you considering? Will you have an opportunity to meet with guidance?

Pitt is great, but I would characterize it as “in the middle of a bustling city”, so maybe not the environment that you want. It’s good that you know your preference for a campus with some natural space.

SUNYs are great. And you can do pre-med and/or biology well at just about any school. It truly doesn’t make a difference to med schools. If you have no cost constraints, you can choose from almost any school you want to make your list. If you have cost constraints, people here can help you figure out which schools would be within your budget. Med school is $$$$ so it’s wise to shoot for low undergrad costs.

Are you interested in religious / Jesuit schools? Small? Big? Private? Public? Liberal arts college or major research university? Sports fans? Sororities? Have you visited any college campuses aside from UCL – if so, what were your thoughts? It might take visiting a variety of schools for you to get a better idea of what you’d like. There’s plenty of campuses to see in NYC and the surrounding areas and now is a great time to start exploring!

So 1450 PSAT, are you NMSF?
If you become a NMF, that opens up the full ride/full tuition possibilities, which includes Bama, which you mentioned.
As someone considering med school, I would look for the lowest cost option possible, because no matter what your parents’ budget is, if you can get a free undergrad, it’ll go a lot further later on.

OP is a junior and PSAT/NMSQT scores are probably not back yet. A 1450 probably wouldn’t be NMSF in New York.
