Matches/safeties

Hey, I'm a rising senior and was hoping that you all could give me some matches and/or safety schools? I am looking for future admission into medical school--just pointed that out to see if it changes anything :P

Indian Male (if that changes anything :)

GPA: 98.5/100
Rank: top 5%
I've taken the most rigorous coursework available at my school. All APs junior/senior year with only one sophomore year becaues that's all the school allows. I will be self-studying atleast 1 AP on top of 5 others that I am taking this coming year, I might do two extra.

SAT I: 1360/2060... bad, I know, but looking am for an increase to atleast 1450 in October. Writing should go up as well but reaching the 1450 mark is my primary goal, 1500+ is ideal. I'm almost there ~_~

SATII: 710 Chemistry, 720 Math2. I am retaking these in november and looking at high 700s. There were some circumstances on test day which caused the scores above, so my goal should definetely be reached here. I might add another SAT II in december for RD deadlines.

So, with all the stats out of the way:

The Power of One: holds large fundraisers to build libraries and promote education in underdeveloped countries. I was the only minor in a group of 4 other adults and helped organize a major fundraiser to raise money for building libraries in other countries, we raised (estimated, not sure exact yet) over $10,000. (could be less, but it's an estimate).

-I will have 350+ volunteers in a health-related field (with ER experience), along with shadowing. 100+ hours working with a indian organization in my society (I was the only junior member on the executive board for this).

-University of Pennsylvania Pre-college, currently enrolled took a class, "A" grade expected (last day tomorrow).

-Currently conducting MRSA research (entering Siemens maybe) and working (not paid) in a physics department conducting experiments.

Ok, on to the common things:
-Math League for 6 years, been on "A" team throughout, blah blah.
-Science Olympiad for the past 3, "A" team for 2 years, placed top 10 in all events.
-Spanish Honor Society/National Honor Society/Interact member
-Chess Club: Co-founder and treasurer
-Senior class treasurer, attended CLeW
-Varsity Tennis 4 years, singles position. USTA Junior team tennis sectionals reached as a team (middle states championships).
-Band: Drumline, snare player. Selected to perform at 76ers game with drumline, been in the "top" band for the past 3 years.
-OH, and currently in the process of founding Mu Alpha Theta at my school.

Sorry if this is lengthy, but this is a general overview of what I have. I tried to condense it as much as i could--there is a lot behind each of these activities that the adcom will be made aware of.

Thanks for all of your suggestions! Matches/safeties: Gogo!

Are you looking for an urban college? Suburban? Northern? Southern?

But yea, here a few suggestions:

Matchreaches:
NYU
BC
UCLA
USC

High reaches:
JHU
Tufts
Cornell (provided you get that SAT score up)
Northwestern
UCB (if you're not OOS, then maybe not "high" reach)

Thanks for the quick reply. What can I do to improve to get those "high" reaches to be lesser reaches? Or atleast make me an average applicant at those places?

^ Raise your SATs, mostly. 2200+ would look nice in conjunction with the rest of your app - grades, rank, EC's are all fine. Just focus on those scores. :)

Ah I see, that's comforting to hear seeing as that is one thing that IS fixable right now while the rest is more or less kinda permanent at this stage of the game, lol. I've just recently fixed my imcompetence with CR (indian, go figure :P), so now 1500 ish and 2200+ is very much in sight. Thanks for the suggestions! Are there any colleges that I should look specifically at? I'm strongly considering Penn ED, Chicago EA, and maybe some others EA as well (my list is not final yet, obviously).

But, do you guys know of any other matches or safeties that are "good" for gaining medical admission or are good colleges in general for me?

Bumpp please :P I'd like more than one person's opinion.. not that grandfatherbob isn't competent, but it's nice to hear some other views also.

I'm not sure about which schools are best for pre-med, being more of a social science person myself, but Godfatherbob's list is pretty good. I'd add WashU to the reach category, although you might be overqualified for them and get waitlisted (they practice some yield protection BS and think anyone too good will reject them), but WashU is a great science-oriented school. I second JHU, too, as a moderate reach for you, very reputable in pre-med.

I wish I could help you find some pre-med-ish safeties, but I haven't really researched enough into that category of schools (I tend to confuse science with math with engineering - it's all lumped into that "don't understand" category in my mind, lol).
