Matching Financial Aid from Non-Ivy Schools

I was accepted to Cornell as a transfer student and have already put down my deposit. I got absolutely nothing in financial aid, which was disappointing but not a surprise. I just received my financial aid package from Georgetown University, and they offered me three types of federal loans as well as work study. Not interested in any loans but I’m definitely interested in work study. I know that Cornell matches aid from other Ivies, Stanford, Duke, and MIT, but I was wondering if it would be worth it to appeal using the Gtown offer as leverage. Not trying to get any grant aid or anything because I know it’s never going to happen, but work study would be a nice option to have.

You could always try, although I wouldn’t hold my breath. But even without work-study as part of your financial aid package, you can find employment on campus! So I would look into on-campus jobs that don’t require work-study.

Work study is just having a job while at school. I have a junior at Cornell (full pay) and had a job since Fresman.

Called today, received a firm “no” from the financial aid office. Guess I’ll be looking for non-work study jobs this fall.

You should start looking in Aug before you are on campus and set up interviews during the orientation week. It is good to get a jump start. Both of my kids were full pay and they worked 4 years on campus. There are also off campus jobs in town too.
