Is there typically enough space left to defer enrolling in Math 16a until phase II?

I would also appreciate an answer.

me too......

doesn't look like it... every section is full and new sections have not opened up for over a month. Waitlisting is the only option.

Phase II starts on the 17th... guess we'll find out for sure

I called the Math Department and they said that they don't know if they will have the funding to open up more discussions. That means that there might not be more openings. She did tell me they might expand to about 28-30 per discussion so if you waitlist, do so on the discussions with little to no waitlist. You'll have a better chance of getting in. My son was originally waitlisted at CALSO and has since been placed in the class.

suuucckksssss

uhm, why isnt it letting me waitlist even?

are you using the 'enroll to waitlist' link on telebears?

It should work... there's still lots of spots left on the waitlist

i did do that, it still said i'm unable to.. :(.. guess i'll have to wait till phase 2.. does anyone know if any spots will be open in the waitlist after 2 weeks?

I was wondering about the waitlist thing. I looked at the schedule and It said lec has 27 waitlisted while the discussion i want has 2 waitlisted. However, when i waitlisted, it said i was 37 in line. Anyone knows how this works?

wtat264: You're being waitlisted for the lecture, not the discussion. I asked my counselor this exact question, and that is the answer she gave me. If you are in the lecture, you will be in the discussion as well.

Yeah but usually the problem is getting into a discussion, not the lecture. They won't put you in the lecture unless you get into that discussion.

That is how it works. You have go be able to get into a discussion to enroll even if there are openings in the lecture. You are noted as the 37th person in line. However, if you sign up for a discussion and waitlist for it and there are only two waitlisted for the discussion you have a good chance to get in. My son had the same issue and I called and she said that they expect to expand the number in each discussion above 25. So you probably will get in. My son did.

Perhaps you should enrol for Math 1A if math is necessary in your first semester, so that if you don't get into 16 you could at least tough out the former?

@stalker

All the math 1a discussions are full too. I'm on the wait-list. >.<

you think they'll open the "currently not open" discussions for math 16a during phase 2?
btw...what is the earliest day for phase 2? like im july 25...are there dates earlier than that too?

Hi Santabanta

Yes, phase II opened on July 17th, with seniors first, and ending on August 17th. Since Math 16A is mostly taken by frosh and perhaps sophomores, if they open the sections for phase II they will probably wait until the batch of entering Freshman have appointments. Many have mentioned dates of the 24th and 25th for their phase II appointments.

The discussions could also stay closed until the adjustment period beginning August 17th or even into the first week of class when they can barter and negotiate with those on waitlists.

thanks so much dude
