Math 1A-1B- difficulty level?

being a MCB major, i have to take the series. i hear it's a killer. i'd like to hear the opinions of those who have already taken it.

it’s a killer if you are one of those “I hate math” people. if you are willing (not necessarily able, because you’ll learn this) to think about the actual logic and proof behind the theorems, math 1a-b will be a breeze.

personally i thought the first half of 1b was ridiculously easy, but the second part on series really threw me off.

--------overall the courses are difficult, but if you put in the time, you’ll be fine. just like all the mcb courses you’ll take

I think for MCB, you can AP out of it and take the 16AB series if you are pre-med. If you do 1AB, it really depends on your prof. My 1A prof was really hard (Hald) and 1B prof was really easy in comparison to Hald. 1A w/ Hald had proofs but 1B was just “solve these integrals”. But the material in 1B is definitely harder - series and differential equations were challenging, some topics that were not covered in AP Calc BC. I also had come in taken AP Calc AB & BC and gotten 5’s so it’s by all means not “easy” but definitely not the hardest classes I’ve taken.

Why did you take them again then stly? I’m in engineering and will probably get a 5 on AP Calc BC but am wondering if I should take at least Math 1B again to build a stronger foundation or just move on to 53 and 54.

Some med schools require 2 semesters of college level math so just in case I do need it, I have it. Plus, it’s good review for physics and some other math-ish courses considering calc was awhile ago.

I would move on to 53 or 54 if possible. =]
