My D is 'all booked up' with school work and EC's until Saturday morning, when she is going to take the Math 2 test for the first time. She will probably be able to squeeze in 2 hrs of prep before she takes the test. She has taken one practice test (from the blue book) and scored somewhere in the low to mid 700's. She is generally good in math and would like to bump up her score in the actual exam to the high 700's.

What do you guys think would be the most effective way to spend her 2 hours? What topics are the most frequently encountered ones among the 'hard' questions? Which ones are safe to leave out? She has the Barron's book, virtually untouched at this point.

Thanks.

dont do that...specially before the test...she will be tired and not focus well on the test.

i say just learn to use the calculator well and she's set!!

Sorry I was not very clear. Her 2 hrs are not going to be just before the test. She has 2 hrs tomorrow (Thursday) after school.

On Friday she has an EC that will keep her busy until late in the evening, so there is no chance of last minute cramming. She may be tired on Saturday morning, but it will be because of the EC, not because of cramming :-).

Thanks for the tip about learning the calculator.

Any other 'high yield' tips to make the most of the limited time available?

focus on the easy problems to avoid errors...skip the last 5, if u can't answer them..

but i only got a 770 :(, so maybe my advice is not that good?

I don't understand... if you're daughter cared wouldn't she post on here? I have never understood why there are so many parents on this board. Just asking...

As for the tip, there really is nothing she can do.

770 is a good score! Congratulations!

King818: You ask a good question. She is busy doing homework or EC's most of the time. She doesn't worry about the exam, and maybe she has the right approach. She seems to do fine anyway. Some parents worry too much, like me, and so we post here. It is therapy for us, I guess.

^I see, you seem like a great parent, I just hope you aren't pushing your daughter to an unreachable length. low-high 700s in 2 hours seems like a bit of a stretch, perhaps she should have began studying earlier? Good luck to both of you.. i hope to do well on saturday too

^^ King, thanks, and good luck to you on Saturday!

I have actually tried to talk her out of taking the test right now and putting it off until January (she is class of 2010). But she just wants to take it anyway, because she will have score choice next year, so it is not a very stressful thing, she can always take it again later to improve her score. She is looking at this as a practice round. The thing is, if she gets a high score without too much effort, then she will be done.

Don't tell her this, but if she's getting low to mid 700's in her practice book, it will probably be an 800.

^^ LOL. No, it was not from the Barron's book. I think she got around 740 in the one Math 2 subject test that comes with the collegeboard blue book.

I just recommend you tell your daughter to relax. Sleep is vital, especially after a rough day of EC activities. I recommend studying the probability section the most, as that seems hard to grasp. As long as she has taken Pre Calculus or Trigonometry, she should score a very high score. Good luck to her and hope she doesn't stress!
