Math 20A 20B 20C Question

I took Calculus at my high school through a college and sent my transcripts to UCSD. Although it does not show on my credits page yet, I heard that my 2 semesters of college will get me exempt from Math 20A and 20B. Is this true? I did not take the AP Calculus test

Secondly, if the above is true, how rigorous is Math 20C for a freshman? I'm afraid that I might've forgotten some of my calculus throughout the summer and if I do get exempt from those 20A/B, I will not receive credit if I retake them.

check assist.org and see which of those math classes transfer over

math 20c is rigorous but you dont really need to know much from 20a and 20b, allot of it is new stuff, although you may have seen it before.

Thanks, any more opinions

if you dont need the 20 series for your major you can petition your 20a/b into 10abc credit since you took a full year of calculus but only received credit for 2/3rds of a year

I second AlexanderDAGr33k’s post, 20C is difficult, but doesn’t really use too much from 20A/20B. Make sure you’ve got integrating down well, and I’d hope math is your forte since the 20 series is a lot harder than the 10 series. Be careful though, 20C is probably the easiest out of 20A/20B, but it’s still difficult–especially if it’s your first time taking Calculus at UCSD.

I find it hard to believe that taking high school calc exempts you from college courses. The AP Exam is the only way to be exempt from college math courses. I took AP calc classes in high school and didnt get exempt at all

math 20c doesnt necessarily require 20a and/or 20b knowledge. Each math class from A-F are all focusing on different math subjects so it’s not like they are all connected. If you are indeed exempt from 20A and 20B, I wouldnt worry too much about the info you skip from those 2 classes.

@Hotshots Actually, AP isn’t the only way to be exempt from college math courses. Forcetactic said she/he took calculus through a college, so she/he would receive credits for those courses if they’re UC-transferrable.

I’m planning on taking 20C as well, provided the classes aren’t already full by the time I get to sign up! ): I heard it involves a lot of geometry. Is that true? 'cause it’s my least favorite subject in math.

There’s like … no geometry in 20C. It’s mostly linear programming (similar to 20F) and vector algebra.
