How hard is it to get into Math 233 if you are 14th on the waitlist? I really need this course first semester (I will be a freshman)

Does anyone have advice on taking the 233 Honors course - is it a lot more difficult than 'regular' 233? Damon is the prof. I did get a 5 on BC.

Honors courses are smaller, more “discussion based” (maybe not the case with Math) and possibly faster-paced than regular classes. I think if you got a 5 on BC you should be okay in taking honors math…
You need to go to the Honors office the day before classes start to try to register for the class. Last time I checked there was 6 seats left, so there’s a chance for you to get it!

…I was 14th on the waitlist Friday at CTOPS… the person checking my schedule told me it’s highly unlikely that I’d get it and that I should just off the waitlist, keep checking to see if any seats open, and go to the first few days of class and talk to the professor if I really wanted it… of course I don’t really want it that badly…

why do you “really need” it first semester?

I only will have 11 credits (not full-time) if I don’t get in to 233. I only have 1 science as a Chem major, Chem 102, and the rest are History, Latin and Fitness so this is not good.
I placed out of Eng 101,102, Bio (AP Bio 5) Math 231,232

eh, I’d just keep checking for seats in Phys 116… and sign up for an elective that you like in the mean time… ASTR 101 looks interesting… also, IDST195 might be good if you want to do undergrad research and it’s only 1hr, I think…

…I don’t think it really matters that you aren’t taking a lot of classes for your major, as long as you’re still on track to graduate on time… you can also go ahead an knock out as many general ed requirements as possible… of course these are all just my opinions, and I’m pre-freshman year like you too so I may not be the best source of information…

You won’t make it off the waitlist for Math 233. However, the waitlist will be purged soon enough, and someone will always drop right before class begins, or even soon after class begins. One way is to go to the professor and talk to him, and he or she might let you in, especially if there is physical space. If not, you can still go to the class the first day, and hope that someone drops out. You can sign up for classes through the first Friday, I believe.

honors classes are almost always easier than the regular classes…its because the professors curve those grades SO MUCH. at least most honors profs. do.

You don’t need it, 233 is a course that a lot of upperclassmen need so they’re going to get priority over you. Take a course that satisfies one of your gen ed requirements, there will definitely be stuff open or you can just pop into any lecture class and talk to the professor afterwards.
