who knows anything about this course? Is it a lot more difficult than math 241 regular? Is it worth taking the honors level of it?

i have the same question as well. im current signed up for a normal section of 241, but i got a letter in the mail today about the honors program. im also a james scholar and i read that you need to take at least one honors class to maintain that, so does anyone know if this is a good class to take an honors section of?

i got a mail about honors section for math 231. so do we need to take extra classes if we choose to enroll this program?

I would like to know more about the math honor system as well. The letter they sent was very generic and it basically just said that I was qualified for math 241. Math 241 honors is most likely more difficult than math 241 regular. Looking at regular and honors, for regular there are classes 5 days for 50 minutes while for honors there are 4 classes for 50 minutes each. So I would think that there would need to be some sort of self learning involved because honors does cover more material.

psp- It’s just an honors class. You can choose to take regular or honors. For honors, it’s more difficult and most likely taught in smaller groups.

but the letter they sent me said something about first-come-first-served to enroll this program. so when do we sign up for it?

You get to be in a small class and do more direct derivations from first principles to get a deeper understanding. Pick it if you’re interested in very mathishly mathy math. The grading curve will likely be a little more lenient since you’re put in competition with other honors students only (i.e. no idiots to drag down the average) but overall it will be a bit harder to get the same grade as you would in the regular class.

but i already signed up for classes in june, and i just received this letter about honors. if i choose to take honors, do i still have to take the regular math i signed up for before?

^ no.

hey i took this class (math 241h). it was pretty good. i got to be in a smaller class with one of the better lecturers in the math dept. i say do it.
