Hello, I recently completed the math 16A/B series and it would help me to take math w53 this summer. Will I be at a disadvantage for taking 53 because I did not take the 1 math series? Math 16 was my first calc experience, but I got an A in both 16A and 16B and did not think they were that difficult.
short answer: kinda. The same topics are covered in the 16 series and 1 series, but the 1 series goes more in-depth and does not have a beginning review session in the beginning of pre-calc. So, the 16 series will give you basic knowledge, but you will not have some of the more in depth stuff that 53 thinks you would already know. So, I would see if I can find the online lectures on the 1 series or at least see if you can get any notes and just skim through the more in-depth stuff (for example, 16 series only goes into one chapter of multi-variable calc, where I think the 1 series does 2 or 3)
thanks, that sounds like good advice.
