opinions please about math at jh versus u of ch, cal, ucsd, or duke. thanks

JHU!
Hope to know which one he will choose!

Have son who is a math major at JHU and am familiar with UChicago program but not the others.

If you are good to very good at math, I don’t think it matters which. I think the JHU dept is smaller but at the undergraduate level, it doesn’t matter much as most people take the same set of standard classes (honors of course) and there are graduate classes available for UG to take as well. My son is planning on getting a BA and MS in math during his 4 years. Possible if you come in with years worth of calc credit as a freshman.

If you are phenomenal at math and plan to pursue PhD at a top program in the country, and will be doing extensive graduate level work as an UG, you’d be better off at UChicago. Chicago’s grad program is definitely stronger.

Cal has a very strong grad level program I know, but don’t really know about their UG program. Can’t imagine you’d go wrong with that, esp if you’re in-state for tuition.
