Math at Pomona

Hi!

I've some stuff about Pomona College and it sounds like a wonderful school, but I don't know very much about the "specifics." I'm interested in majoring in math in college, and I was wondering if anyone here on CC did so at Pomona. If so, what's the program like? What math programs at other schools would you say are comparable to the one at Pomona?

Thanks!

It is INCREDIBLE. I would go so far as to call it Pomona’s best department. I took a math class this year with no interest in pursuing a major or minor and left amazed enough to at the least do a math minor. I’m not the only one- a good 7-9% of the class chooses to do math because of A) how kind and brilliant the professors are B) how many classes are available C) how challenging yet fun the classes are D) how many potential tracks are available, ranging from applied math to engineering to statistical math to theoretical math

Thanks to the Claremont Consortium Pomona students have access to over 120 math classes, so math isn’t limited. Pomona has a ton of math classes and students rarely have to go to the other schools, but that option is available. The Claremont Colleges also have their own mathematical summer research program, which is usually limited to universities.

Check out all the specific information you need here: [Claremont Center for the Mathematical Sciences | Gateway to the Claremont Mathematics Community and beyond](<a href=“Home - Claremont Center for the Mathematical Sciences”>http://ccms.claremont.edu/) and <a href=“Mathematics and Statistics Department | Pomona College in Claremont, California - Pomona College”>http://www.math.pomona.edu/</a></p>

The math teachers are top notch, and there are regular “mentoring sessions” for students who have questions with assignments or who would like to review before tests.
