I am taking post secondary classes at Ohio State. I will be a senior in high school, and have completed AP Calc BC. What course do you recommend? Honors Calc 1?

It all depends on what you plan to major in. For most majors, AP Calculus BC already exceeds the math requirements. However, it is far short of the requirements for majors like engineering.

Also, there are various honors calculus 1 courses at OSU, so what is the exact number of the one you are considering on taking? Is it MATH 1181H, 1172, etc.? Instead of honors, have you also thought about just taking Calc III or another math course such as linear algebra?

I am not majoring in math, but GC said a year off math would be a poor idea. Meeting with someone at post secondary program to discuss specific classes shortly, but I am trying to get a general idea. I have considered Calc 3 and had some people recommend against it. How do calc 3 and honors calc 1 compare?

looking at 1181H

My brother took 1181H, he’s a bright math student and ended up using freshman forgiveness on it. It’s very theoretical.

@grayishwater Thanks, that is helpful. Although math comes easily to me, I do fear 1181H would be too challenging for me, at least right now as I’m still in high school and its not necessary for anything I would major in. I’m leaning away from calc, maybe even math altogether, as my post secondary class.

If you are not considering a math major or engineering field (STEM), I would simply throw yourself a party for being done with math. Consider a more general elective or something you’r interested in.

Its worth noting that Honors classes require Honors standing at the university. You will want to look into how this effects PSEO students who do not /cannot have honors status.
