I’m in 7th grade and it’s been my dream to go to the Naval Academy. Right now I’m on course to take pre-calc senior year. I’m in the high math class and I’m one of the top students grade and test wise. I’m also an athlete. I do track, lacrosse, basketball, and soccer (I might play kicker on the football team). I won 2nd place in state for the 800m run and my soccer team has won states multiple times. I also do band, Boy Scouts, and I participate in a church group.
My questions: Can you get into the naval academy if I’m in pre-calc? If so what are my chances? Should I really try hard to get into an advanced math class to put me on that course? From the information listed above, what are my chances?
This site will become your best friend once you enter high school, but is a good guidline, even for your age right now. http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/Steps-for-Admission/General-Advice-for-Grades-9-12.php
Honestly, the best thing you could possibly do for yourself, even as a 7th grader, is explore the USNA website (specifically the Admissions page) for all the information you can gather about what you can do in your future to make you a great candidate for the academy. Even going as far as e-mailing your local Blue and Gold officer (which you can find your state’s in this link: https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/BGO/index.php ) can make you stand out as a young individual who is ALREADY interested. By contacting your state Blue and Gold officer, who is a USNA admissions representative, they can answer many of your questions and even refer you to your most local B&G officer. Good luck kid!
Oh! One more thing. At the end of the day, what you do in high school is what will make the largest impression on the admissions officers. Make sure to keep up with all of your great accomplishments throughout those times as well!
