These questions are from the bb practice test #1, section 3 questions 5 and 20.

5: The venn diagram above shows the distribution of 30 science students who either studied butteflies, grasshoppers, both, or neither. What percent of the students studied butterfulies only?( The diagram basically shows 9 in the buttefly circle 15 in the grasshopper circle and 3 in common for both. 3 people are neither) My problem is that it says only people who studied butterflies so dont the 3 people have to subtracted from the 9?

a 10
b20
c30
d40
e50

20 A salesperson's commission is k percent of the selling price of a car. Which oof the following represents the commission, in dollars, on 2 cars that sold for $14000 each?

a. 280k b. 7000k c. 28000k d.14000/(100+2k) e. (2800+k)/100

i tried using my own number for the commision percent but i get answer c instead of A?

For #20

Lets say we choose 10 for k. So 10% of $28,000 would be $2,800 (his commission). Then plug it in to the answer choices. 280 x 10 = 2,800 (our answer).

5 would be 9/30 which is 30%, because of the 30 students, only 9 studied butterflies only. This problem is just seeing that you can correctly understand the info in the venn diagram (don’t over-think here  )

thanks, i got the commision one wrong because I thought that the commision was per 14000, rather than the 28,000.

wait… wouldnt the first question be 20%?
9-3= 6 and then 6/30 is 20%…

cause 9 would include ppl that studied grassphoppers also…

ok now im MAD CONFUSED >.<

wait my answer would only be right if the 9 was outside the circle of the venn diagram right? meaning 9 represents the whole circle of buterflies instead of 9 actually being inside the part of the circle.

Heres my answer

20.) C

Ohhh thanks I get it now thanks ■■■■■.
