I'm not sure if I should take the Math I or Math II SAT Subject Test.

However, the problem is that I already took the Math I, which I got a very low score on because ill-prepared and the math was all unfamiliar (geometry & algebra) I am a strong math student, recently finishing pre-calc and going to take AP Calc.
I don't know if I should take the Math I to cover my mistake (studying this time of course) or should taking Math II be sufficient or just take both?

If the issue is what happens to math 1 score if you take math 2 and score higher, the answer is the math 1 will not be used at all in admisson. Colleges that require SAT IIs require them in different subjects, so if you take math 1 and 2, that counts as only one SAT II and they will ignore the test with the lower score.

Usually those who have already finished pre-calc are good candidates for amth 2.

Pre-calc is all you need for Math II. According to Collegeboard, they made Math II and Math I equally difficult, so I say take MathII. There is a more generous curve on MathII and since you are a strong math student, you should have no problem with it. Good luck!

I was in the same situation this year. As a junior, I doubled up on Precalc and AP Calc, and then took Math II in June. This is probably your best bet because those math topics are fresh in your mind (especially Precalc…that’s most of what Math II is)
Also, as others said, the curve for Math II is very nice.

THANK YOU EVERYONE
I appreciate all the answers. Especially drusba. I just really wasn’t too sure what would happen to math i or if it’d show up.

I was in the same boat as you I got a 560 in Math I as a sophomore and a 780 in Math II as a junior. Colleges will only care about math ii 1. because it’s harder than math i and 2. because its my highest math subject test score.

If you do as well as I did on math ii, then you can forget about your math i score.
