math in college

I have credit for calc 1 and calc 2 through AP classes. My major only requires calc 1.

Should I take math in college (like statistics) even though it’s not required? If I don’t, will med school care?

Some med schools don’t accept AP credit I believe. Take a look at med schools you may be interested in and speak to a pre-med advisor.

You need to statistics regardless of what you decide to do about your AP math credit.

Statistics is included in all sections of the MCAT and many medical schools are now requiring a one semester of either statistics or biostatistics.

If you get AP credit for something, you should be expected to take at least one actual college course in that discipline to show admissions committees a letter grade in that discipline, even if your school of interest accepts AP credit. This holds true for any science discipline, especially bio, chem, and physics. For non-science disciplines, it is still recommended that you do so, but not as important.

Many medical schools do recommend if not require statistics. You don’t need to take calc 3 if you don’t want to and don’t need to. Statistics works just fine.
