math kid applying to school of NON-engineering

The title of this thread sums all.

Judged by my extracurricular records, my interest appears to be heavily engaged with math and technology (mu alpha theta, math help club, technology club etc) Consequently, majority of my awards and recognitions are from area of science.

When approached my senior year however, my interest quickly turned to english literature and economics (I guess you can relate economics with differentials in calculus, but eng. lit!) and I intend to apply to school of arts & science, not shcool of engineering.

Don't get me wrong, I still love math. But I don't think I can handle the rigor of an engineering school and dig into engineering for my entire college career. (I am aware that students can transfer to other departments of school, but most say this is very difficult)

Would I stand in a less competitive spotlight in admission to school of arts & science compared to others as a result of my extracurricular background?

I would love to hear from anyone experiencing the same problem or knows any knowledge. Thanks-

Many liberal arts programs WANT kids who have diverse interests. My son is majoring in biology, but all of his ECs were arts related. You will be fine.

Uhh, people who like math don't have to do engineering. People who major in math are not in engineering. And honestly your major of choice plays a very small role in the admissions process anyway.

Conclusion: it doesn't matter at all.

hahah thanks! nice to hear that :)
I guess I made the mistake of assuming that theoratical/pure math is a sub-category of engineering. thanks for the replies

At most schools if they are divided by "colleges" the department of math is usually not part of the engineering colleges and instead part of the sciences college. Look for a list somewhere of liberal arts colleges that have strong math programs, it's out there somewhere. I know Brown is such a school.

Math/econ is a very popular double.
