Hey all,

I'm just wondering if anyone had the following math professors/instructors while at NW? Gwilliam or Nadler? They're coming to Berkeley, and I'd like to know how they teach because I'm setting up my schedule for next semester. Classes I'm planning to take are Analysis w/Gwilliam and Linear Algebra w/ Nadler.

Any info on either of them would be much appreciated.

It might seem like I'm going over the top, but I've learnt from my experience here at Cal that a decent professor can make the whole process of learning math so much easier.

Thanks.

Taking two classes with profs from NU? Are you a closeted wildcat? :D

A current student should be able to look up some course evaluation for you.

Nope, but we have at least three people from NU coming to our math dept. that are also teaching a lot of the upper div. classes next semester. Nadler who is teaching Lin Alg. Gwilliam/Stadnik (teaching analysis) who I think were Ph.D. students and seem to be coming here for Post-doc work. So yeah, trying to get an idea of what they’re like. They all seem to have pretty impressive CVs, but I don’t think that necessarily implies excellent teaching skills either.

Nadler has excellent reviews. No responses on the other two.

Ah thanks, yeah he’s a prof. This is totally a bummer, I don’t really wanna take analysis with budding post-docs.

Yeah, there are a lot of post-docs teaching classes next sem. @ Cal, probably due to budget constraints… oh well… Thanks for the help though. I think these grad students probably facilitated section/discussion for some of the math classes there. Just looking for some sort of feedback.

^“no responses” likely means they didn’t teach any classes. That makese sense because grad students rarely teach at NU. I can’t speak for everybody else but none of my classes were taught by grad students.

Also, they are probably still doing PhD. My guess is Nadler is their advisor; it makes sense they follow him to Berkeley.
