Math or Economics?

I’m filling out my application and I don’t know which one to choose. If I were to do math, I would do the actuarial option. What are the pros and cons to both?

Are you asking the pros and cons to the careers? Probably not casting a wide enough net posting in this forum. The career paths are not really overlapping so comparing them is hard. Econ majors are going to end up in a business analyst or consulting role and actuaries will likely be an actuary for a consulting firm or large business. But either one can be more flexible if you want it to be.

If you are asking about odds of getting in one versus the other- math is in CNS and Econ is in Liberal Arts. Math tends to attract those who miss the Engineering cutoffs and Econ those that miss the business cutoffs. Both fairly tough. Look at the degree plans and see which one you like the better. With either one, I’d strongly recommend the business minor.

I kinda phrased it wrong. What I meant was the pros and cons of the departments. For example, I’ve heard economics is very theoretical
