Math Placement Exam

Well I put off doing the math placement until now a month after I graduated and i was planning on taking the math placement exam soon, but I wanted to spend a day or so touching up on some math. Well my my mom, who has my login info decided to make me start my math placement exam with absolutely no prep at all and I scored exactly one question under the mark to be placed in calculus 1. mainly I only missed trig identity questions (the ones you have to know and cant really work out), which I could have answered correctly if I was allowed to study for a day. I got a 760 or 770 (I cant remember which at the moment) on my math SAT and I'm think I may have gotten a 5 on the AP Cal AB exam (I scored all very high 5's on every single practice test), and I'm wondering If I will be forced to take Pre-calculus or can i take Calculus 1? I think I'm probably ready for (in accordance with a buddy of mine in the engineering program).

You can retake the math placement test up to three times however, you must wait 30 days before it can be retaken. You can find more information about the testing rules and where you should be placed here: [Math Placement Exam Requirements and Exemptions | New Aggie](http://newaggie.tamu.edu/nsc/testing/math)

Good Luck!

It is just one tool used for your math placement. If you made a 5 on the AP test, won’t even matter - and your 770 on SAT Math is more than enough to get you out of Pre-Cal. Dont worry about it!

You will have to retake and score a 25/33 to register for math 151, engr 111, and phys 218. In other words, you will not be able to take the first year engr courses. It is not just ONE tool used for math placement–it is THE tool. There is a practice exam that shows the areas covered on the exam. Unfortunately, you now have to take an online course through TAMU (I think it lasts a month–the reason for the wait to retake the exam) before retaking the math placement exam. If I had to guess, your mom was probably anxious for you to take the exam because your NSC was approaching. You will have to sign-up for classes that you don’t want at NSC and try to change your schedule later

Correction–you need a 22/33 to register for math 151.
