Math placement results?

A good chart for math placement from A&M

Thanks cromette, it was a real relief. I was dreading he would have to take a pre cal refresher course or something.

Perazziman, well it doesn’t look like that will be necessary at all. Given that graphic, I’m really sort of surprised they will accept a 22 as an entry point for Calculus I.

Yes I agree. Perhaps a 22 might be okay for someone looking for a C grade in calculus for business majors etc.

Also, I am not certain, but I would think, there could be kids with 22s who are rusty. Perhaps, someone who did well in pre-calculus in junior year and skipped math in senior year. As long as they had SAT Math scores in the 600s, they could ramp up with a summer prep course and be ready by the Fall etc

Son still has not decided if he should take 151/ 152 or go straight to MV Calculus.

Have you done your NSC? If not, you will meet with your sons advisor and they will recommend what math class he should take.

It really depends on what type of engineering he is going into.

My son tested out of Math 151 but opted to take it just so he is 100 percent prepared. He is majoring Petroleum Engineering.

Wow, he’s in a great place then. D is definitely placed right in 151.

Have you done your NSC?

Nope. Not yet.

My older son showed me this website, it helps when making your schedule:

https://www.myedu.com/chalkboard/

Always double check the TAMU website that the classes are still listed and available.

That is a really cool tool. What would make it better is if it told who the prof was for each section.

I think my D’s strategy is going to be to pick her classes, taking into consideration professor first, and then timing, in the following priority:

PHYS 218
MATH 151
ENGR 111
A Performing Visual Arts Elective
KINE 198

We did a bit of research on the profs for each of her required classes and she has definite preferences.

The “Plan My Schedule” tool on MyEdu does tell you who the prof will be for each section.

I know. That’s what I was saying. It’s a great tool, but it would be better if it did that.

Hm maybe I’m misunderstanding you, but it does do that (when I use it at least). Did your daughter use it to plan her schedule?

Izelkay, LOL. I just realized I was misreading your post. She tried to use it, but we did not see professor’s name. We’ll look again.

jbg1204 and Izelkay, thanks, that is a great website.

AH! I see it now. THANKS!!!

wish we had used it! Tried to but it kept telling us the schedule was not avail. Now that our NSC is done we can make schedules!! I’m sure we were doing something wrong! Will
definitely use for spring!

Yea! That’s an awesome tool! Thanks again. Is it updated it as classes fill up?

It’s supposed to but I don’t think that feature works correctly yet.

I believe that’s what the “status” section is for, but every class I look at on there doesn’t have anything in them.

Great website. Student comments on professors and courses really helped me!
