Is anyone worried? I took calc BC in 11th grade, scored a 5 on the AP, and I am worried, because apparently that is not enough to get you placement. So I am relearning calculus before we have to take the test online (after we get our netIDs and passwords).

Are you thinking of taking the multi-variable calc + linear algebra analysis? I'm not too worried because I helped the BC kids prep this year which was a constant review for me.

Yeah i was thinking of that. I have taken a course in linear algebra, but i havent done any multivariable calculus. I just hope they dont put me in remedial calc!

Just wondering, how much focus did your linear algebra class have on proofs? Remedial calc! Hah! yeah right.

about half of the points on all of the tests were proof. we spent 2 days going over proof notation.

Ugh, that was my first proof based course, it was difficult to go from number crunching to proofs. My tests were 8 questions all proofs, 3 hours......torture.

you guys should see the look of utter confusion on my face... i think i must have slept during my 3 years of high school math because i have no idea what you're talking about!

EPGY Linear Algebra tests are fun.

I'm pretty sure that you'll place into the desired class with 5 on the BC test.

were you being sarcastic? EPGY linear, aww man, it taught me that I'm not the hotshot in math that I thought I was. The class wasn't impossible, I guess the fact that I waited until the last month to do the class didn't help.

No, I'm not sarcastic. The questions are difficult, of course :) but who said they can't be fun?

If you want to see really hard linear algebra questions check out H's Math 55's psets. We had a problem solving Math 55 session one day at my Math Club lol...

Fair enough, they were fun. I just thought you were implying that they were easy, in which case I tip my hat to you. Linear Algebra is pretty amazing.

Nobody cares about math placement test.

1) it's online, I took it with other people
2) my TA didn't even ask to see it when I walked into Math 120 (the dreaded multi-variable class)
3) on the off chance that a TA actually cares, you can probably talk your way into the class... if you REALLY want to

are there time constraints?

Don't remember. There might have been.. probably. Oh... if you ARE taking math 120 next year, you can always IM me for extra advice. ~_^ ladyeudaimonia

Do we need to take the math placement test if we plan on taking a class beyond Math 120, such as Math 230?
