I will be transferring to USC in the Spring of 2018 at Marshall in Junior standing. I’m not sure if I’m reading their website wrong but I have a few questions for the Math Placement Test.
Marshall says that we need Math 118 or Math 125 to fulfill the math requirement. What if I took the Math 125 equivalent at my local community college? Would I have to take the placement exam and re-take one of the math requirements at USC? Or would the math requirement be waived at USC since I have already completed the Math class at my community college?
I will have completed 6/8 GE’s by the time I transfer, with the remaining two offered only at USC. I’m just looking to do upper-division business classes by the time I get there, and have no intentions on taking any more math classes.
Any advice for USC orientation from previous transfers will be greatly appreciated!
The course you took at your cc - if on the articulation agreement as an equivalent of Math 125 - will fulfill your math requirement. I actually don’t know if you will have to take the placement exam as a transfer…I am thinking you might (not sure at all) and of course every freshman does, but the placement test does not get them waived from a math class, it is just making sure a student doesn’t need a more remedial math than 118 or 125. The AP scores and course history/grades is what gets you waived or into a higher level class, for example my S started in Calc III at USC, but that was not based on the placement test. You may still need to take the test, but your class will satisfy the requirement. Check the transfer thread below, there are helpful posters on it and a ton of great info. And fyi, there is a transfer office who may be able to answer your question as well.Good luck!

Hey! Did you ever find out for sure about what happens if you’ve already fulfilled the math equivalent course? I’m in the same position as you.
@C0l1egegirl I ended up calling admissions and they said that I can just ignore the placement test. Since every transfer who has been admitted to Marshall basically has Calculus 1 done, it would be unfair for us to have to retake a class no? I also mentioned it briefly on the Fall 2017-2018 USC Transfer thread.
Good infor @squirtlesquirtle, thanks for posting.
Thank you for replying back! I called as well and they told me to ignore it also. I took it just in case though.
