Math requirement for Ross preferred admitted student

Son got Ross PA. He hates calculus with all the graphing. He already got 5 on cal BC. I would like to know if he can get away with not taking any math class in freshman year. Or just take a statistics class.

Please chime in. I already tried once but no one replied.

@JH8888 I am a freshman at Michigan and can help with this question! Since he already scored a 5 on Calc BC, he does not need to take another math course. The 5 on AP Calc BC will give him credit at Michigan and will count as the Calculus requirement he needs to have in order to stay in Ross for his sophomore year. For Ross, as a PA, they need to have taken a Calc 1, 2, 3 or above class with a C or better (though since he got AP credit he doesn’t need to worry about this since Calc BC is equivalent to Calc 2 at U of M) an Econ course with a C or better (Econ 101 at Michigan) and he will take a Business Communications course his winter semester as a PA to get him acclimated into business classes. With all this PA’s need a 3.3 overall GPA their freshmen year and 27+ credits for the whole year (most people take 14-17 each semester) Hope this helps! GO BLUE!

@madisonj13 What about if you get a 4 on AP calculus AB?

Look up the AP credit policy at umich.edu. The question on CalBC would depend on whether full credit of Calc1 and Calc2 are needed. In LSA, you only get half credit until you take the next level class and receive a C or above.

@busymd Getting a 4 on CalcAB would not get you any credit unless you are in CoE.

Oh, but it is confusing ( at least to me). Ross says it accepts AP calculus. Under engineering, it says you get credit for a 4 or 5 in AB calculus, but in LSA, you need a 5. It doesn’t say anything about the other schools ( kinesiology, STAMPS etc), so not sure what you would need for Ross to be exempt. Guess we will have to make a call

@madisonj13 thank you so much for your explanation! This is very helpful.
