Usually liberal arts schools have the bs math and science courses for english and social science majors. I am majoring in Politics and hate math and science with a passion. Any easy courses to get the gen ed. out of the way? Bates :)

Bates literally has “physics for poets” which used to be quite popular. There also is astronomy at an “oh wow” level. I don’t think you have to take math unless you need stats for a social science major.

At Bates, you only have to take one “Q” (quantitative) class to graduate, and it doesn’t have to be a math class. Many science classes will also fulfill the Q requirement. As an English major, I’m currently taking Mathematics for a Just World to get that out of the way. There are other low-level math classes like Data Analysis that are not too demanding. Anything lower than calculus should be manageable for someone who isn’t into math or science. As for science, I’m taking a low-level geology class to fulfill my “L” (lab science requirement) and will probably take a low-level biology class like Bugs in the System, Extreme Physiology, or Human Reproduction for my “S” (scientific reasoning) class. There are also simpler astronomy and physics classes (e.g., The Physics of Sports) that might fit the bill.
