Math waitlist/switching physics series

I have 2 questions:

1)I'm currently on the waitlist (last spot) for math 3c and i heard that if your on the waitlist for a math class then you're automatically in. Is this true?

2)I'm a life science first year and all the science classes are full, except physics 1a. If I take that is it possible for me to enroll in 6b after completion?

Any help is appreciated!

Pretty much.

Don’t think so. (Not sure.)

I’m almost certain you can switch from 1A to 6B (the latter is even an option for math majors, while the former is mandatory), but the Physics department website doesn’t seem to say specifically.

Usually you can switch from the physical science series to the life science series much more easily than the other way around. If you call the undergraduate office they should be able to tell you.

[Physics & Astronomy](http://academics.physics.ucla.edu/)

^ Actually, I knew someone who took the 20 Chem series and wanted to switch to the 14, but couldn’t. Supposedly, it’s the other way around–which is definitely contrary to what I’ve been told at orientation.

Best if you get a definitive answer in print or writing, that way you can blame someone. There’s a lot of misinformation, even among people who are supposed to know better. If you only call, careful you’re not getting a student worker.

K thanks guys. I’ll try e-mailing them for a definitive answer, hopefully they respond before the class fills up though!

@silvercross, what do you mean by “pretty much”?

The math department once told me that after a certain day (perhaps the day before class starts?) every one on the waitlist is added to the class.

But if it’s after that “certain” day, I’m assuming it’s no longer a “guarantee.” Also, it may not apply to smaller classes or something like that. Plus, you never know when they might change policy.

Gotcha, thanks for the insight.
