math?

i just have a quick question

how is calc 1 at um? if any1 has taken it it'd be helpful if u could tell me

anything is helpful. class difficulty? curves? hw per night?

thanks =D

any1? 10char?

It’s not that bad. It kind of depends on if you get a GSI who is actually capable or not/can actually speak English. It shouldn’t be hard if you’ve already taken some calc before. But even so, don’t slack off. There’s online homework every couple of days.

Most of the GSI’s are straight off-the-boat Asians who speak very poor English. The HW isn’t hard; the exams are impossible. One of my buddies got a score in the 30 percent range that went up to a C+ with the curve. In other words, his grade over doubled because of how crappy everyone did on it. They make it unnecessarily difficult and then apply a big curve

Homework isn’t a problem, I did it right after class and it rarely took very long (~30-50mins avg). I had to go to the math help room a couple of times to finish it near the end of the semester.

As for difficulty, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Sure the exams aren’t easy, but not insanely difficult either. However, I took this class last year and the curves were higher than previous years, so it’s possible they made the exams easier.

I had a good GSI who spoke English fine.

What I didn’t like was the group homework you had to do each week. Technically you don’t have to do it, but everyone is assigned to a group so you pretty much have to. Early on, I had a great group but later they had us change groups and I was with some really lazy guys so meeting up for the problem sets became a waste of time and unhelpful.

o i see thanks! and are there exams often? so hw is pretty much not graded/collected?
