Hi! I got a 5 in Calculus BC and I'm having difficulty choosing between math 32A or 3C. A lot of people have told me 3C is easier..but some say 32A is not hard either..any suggestions?

if you are sure you will stay in the life sciences track (assuming you are in one already), take 3c. If you are in any other major or may switch into any non life sciences major, take 32a.

3c would be easier as i believe it doesn’t touch on multivariable calc or at least not as much in depth… plus you don’t have to compete with math majors and engineers

I think… 3C is more difficult to understand… because of counting and if you don’t have the right mind set then it’s kind of hard to explain. And then some of the TA’s don’t really know how to explain it well either. But it depends on your professor & how difficult he/she makes it, too. I think this class is generally easier since they don’t make it as difficult as it can be.

I think 32A is easier to understand, but they make the class more difficult. But depending on your professor, it can be taught very badly or you can’t understand what they are saying…

So basically, the difficulty really depends on the professor. But, I think the topic of 3C is more difficult than that of 32A.

And even though you don’t have to compete with engineers/ math majors by taking 3C, you have to compete with premeds…

3C hands down

the teacher for 32a is rogawski and for 3c, it’s barbaro…

thanks for the replies guys

I would say 3C is easier … just because there are less math and science majors to compete with. But in my personal opinion, the concepts of 32a is actually easier than 3c. But again, because of the large number of math/science majors, the curve is messed up, so it’s harder to get an A.

what? 32a doesnt have a jacked up curve. the average on the final was like 50-60 lol.

Well, it did when I took it like 6 years ago.

since some medical school want at leats some calculus…wouldnt it be better to take 32A since 3c is not considered calculus?

32A isn’t bad at all.

so, 32a is more flexible if you want to switch out of life sciences? (which i might do)

but at the same time i dont want to get off on the wrong foot, especially since i have to deal with lavelle for frosh chem as a bio major.

what should i take?

take 3c dude. my friend took it last quarter and i saw his textbook. its a JOKE. 32a isnt that hard but at least its not a joke. yea my 32a class was full of math majors and engineers. i was able to measure myself against them fools, got 94% on the final…i would say us econ majors arent, in any way, inferior to the engineers/math majors math-wise.

i had park and his tests are pretty hard, but the class average was consistently 85%.
