Mathematics Level II Questions (Related to Parabolas & Conics)

  1. Do I need to know foci, directrix & eccentricity for the conic sections in the Math Level 2 exam? Are there any questions on the exam testing these concepts?
  2. How do I find the inverse of a vertical parabola (y=a(x-h)^2+k)? Whenever I attempt to do this, I achieve y=+-a(x-h)^(1/2)+k. But in the answers of the questions, the general formula appears as x=a(y-k)^2+h. How do I achieve the latter formula when finding the inverse. Essentially, I want to know how to find the inverse of a vertical parabola, which would be a horizontal parabola. Any external links to videos, diagrams, websites would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Edit: Ignore question #2. Solved. If anyone could answer question #1, that’d be great.

Bump.

I also wanted to know that. BUMP

  1. I don't think so (but I could be wrong). If I remember correctly, math II questions on conics are usually pretty basic.

@MITer94 Thanks. Any more information/opinions on question #1 would be valued, guys.

I highly doubt it. I went through a lot of SAT books to get a feel of the test (int student) and I don’t recall seeing any questions to do with any of those. Conics questions are REALLY basic.

@lostint Thank you! I’m an international student as well.
