The U of M TC is highly rated for its mathematics program(s)... Why?

(I've looked at the US News site and can't find what the rankings are based on... so I'd just like some input as to why the math program is so great. Thanks!)

Almost every program in UMN’s Institute of Technology is highly-ranked and reputably. The math program has strong research activities in many fields and a very strong reputation.

I believe that the USNews Graduate ranking is based mostly on peer surveys, as is the NRC ranking. Both put UMN in the top 20 for math.

One thing that boosts the U of Minnesota math program is all of the strong students who come out of the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Mathematics Program.

Having a lot of students who have finished multivariable calculus and linear algebra before finishing high school allows offering stronger undergraduate courses. The graduate school draws students from all over the world, especially because of Minnesota’s strong ties to alumni in China, and that means there are many very good graduate level courses that advanced undergraduates can take. Minnesota did very well in the most recent North Central MAA math contest.
