MatriculationStats

Hi folks!

I'm the guy who created the matriculationstats website three years ago when my older son was applying to schools. My younger son is now applying to schools, so I popped back in here to see if it had faded into oblivion or was still being referred to. I'm glad to see that people are still making use of it, hopefully correctly. As I caution on the site, please don't put too much reliance on the particular stats of one school compared to another school. These stats are certainly interesting and do provide some guidance but need to be interpreted cautiously.

And I'll preempt the obvious question before anybody asks it. I am definitely not intending to update the site anytime soon, and probably never. It was a LOT of work putting it together and I simply don't have the time or motivation to repeat that grand effort.

Dang…I was expecting an update. It was of great help to many of us and I would like to thank you for it.

@Lvillegrad I accidently came across your website, and it was useful to draw a big picture early in the process. Glad to find out whom the author was! Thank you very much!

@Lville,
Your site is very well done, but matriculation statistics have changed (sometimes dramatically) in the last 2 or 3 years. Can we suggest an update may be most helpful?

Lvillegrad - heh heh, that’s what you get for having a great site for type A parents - a lifetime of statistical slavery

@Parlabane - You’ve got it right. :)

@2prepMom - I’m sure an update would be helpful (though I doubt stats have changed that dramatically), but I don’t have the time to do it. Sorry about that.

Would you do it if some parents helped collect the data for you?

Perhaps CC or BSR would take it on. I could see a small fee being charged for (and paid by) parents and kids interested in the latest stats. Perhaps one of those two sites would buy your initial work.

@Parlabane - Interesting idea. I’d probably be willing to work with CC if they inquired.

@SevenDad - Although collecting the data is time consuming, even more time consuming is parsing the data. On their websites, schools provide their information in a variety of different formats which requires some manual interpretation to make the data actually usable. And even collecting the data can be difficult for some schools, as I had to dig for various pieces of it and then apply some reasonable estimation methodologies. I estimate that it would take me 50 to 100 hours to fully update the site.

And even a small fee paid by a bunch of parents wouldn’t really compensate me for my time. I did the initial work as a labor of love but am not currently so motivated. Like many of the parents here, I have a well-paying job (need to one to afford tuitions!) which takes up much of my time.
