Hey guys, what's the maximum word limit for the common application essay? It says, 'Please write an essay (250 words minimum) on a topic of your choice or on one of the options listed below.' Is 1,000 words just too long?

1000 is a little too long. Cut it down to 750 max. If I can do it, anyone can, lol.

I quibble–I think that 800 is a good ABSOLUTE max, for all essays ever. Most essays don’t need to be more than 750, if that. (Mine was 790, and I was covering a series of three important and distinct events, so I could have started cutting events, moved into telling not showing, or left it at 790. So I left it.) 1000 is definitely too much though.

Dang mine’s too long

So there isn’t any real “maximum”… We should just keep our essays long enough to get the point across without sacrificing the interest of the reader right?

mine is 2,000:(
