I think the students winning those awards were notified last week by phone. No one should feel too disappointed. You can’t go into something like that with 1500 kids and really think you’re going to win it. You go, do your best, hope you might get lucky, but don’t plan on it. There were a lot of smart kids in that room. Congratulations to all who were lucky enough to be there!

Thanks for updating. We still haven’t heard anything one way or another, but then S2 took the Maximus exams late because we had to reschedule 3 times with the snow. At this late date, I’m assuming any news we receive will be in the “regrets” category.

We were at the first testing session, and we live in Columbus, so mailings reach us quickly. OSU is still a front-runner for my D - she likes the school, and it’s the relatively cheap local option for us.

Good luck to everyone still in the hunt.

My son received his “regrets” letter today. But I agree w/Wildwood – when you are competing with 1500 strong candidates for 70+10 slots, you go, do your best, enjoy the experience and hope you get lucky.

I am not personally convinced that a 2-hour “pop quiz” style essay contest is the best way to make/break these scholarship decisions, but Hey – it’s their money and their school and they can do it however they want.

DS still likes OSU (not his top choice, but very close) and just may decide to go there. They take good care of their Honors students, which is a big bonus compared to the other big publics.

i think that they should increase it to 3500 dollars/year for the kids who attend the competition as a consolation/at least you took the time to plan and come. i believe that is how cincinnati does theirs. i only got provost so it doesn’t affect me, but i feel that a 600 dollar/year difference for my accomplishments to a maximus student is not fair for them

My d also got the “regrets” letter tday. It certainly was a memorable experience. We plowed through a blizzard to get there-if I was driving I would have turned around. Congrats to the 80 who got the scholarships!

My daughter received a letter Saturday that she won the Medalist Scholarship. It was worth the drive in the snow!

^Congrats Schrinky! My D is awaiting word on the Morrill scholarship; she will definitely be attending if she receives it!

susanr64, my daughter applied for the Morrill also, but didn’t hear anything on it.

^In reviewing previous year’s threads, I think we will be waiting until the end of March! It’s great your D got the Medalist; we are out of state and D received the National Buckeye and trustee scholarships, but fees are still a little high. So we will see!
