Maxwell School

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the Maxwell School. I think I'm going to attend SU instead of NU because it seems that the political science (I want to be a lawyer) is very good at the Maxwell House, and even though NU has coops, I rather have the better education. Can someone elaborate about my field of political science in SU/Maxwell?

My son is a freshman in CAS majoring in poly sci. Poly sci has profs from Maxwell, but the undergraduate degree is from CAS not Maxwell. Maxwell degrees are only at graduate level. Just making that distinction.

He has had a very good first year at SU, and is happy he chose to go that route. He finds his poly sci course work right up his alley. He’s going to add another major or minor as well - potentially international relations, history, or middle eastern studies. There are a lot of choices, and he’s figuring out his next steps. He also thinking about either law school or a Maxwell graduate degree in public policy.

When making the final decision SU arranged a one on one interview with him during admitted students day in April '10. He was able to talk with Prof Mark Rupert (poly sci chair), and the poly sci advisor (came complete with the pages and pages of poly sci offerings for an undergrad, and suggested options). Rupert was great, and answered all questions. This meeting pushed him over to choose SU over another choice in the Boston area.

Over sprink break, he ended up lining up an unpaid internship for the summer at a large Boston law firm. Don’t know if SU/Maxwell helped with that or not.

So far, he’s happy at SU, and his course work taught by the Maxwell profs.

@BillysDad2014 I understand the Maxwell House provides many opportunities for undergraduate as well though after I’ve done some research. But you or your son felt that SU’s political science is stronger than the other Boston school?
