May 2011 - US History Post-Test Discussion

It was the race riots in New York at the proposed draft, I believe.

@iiBoGo I said something about Southern brigades, but that was an educated guess.

and @ACTTester, there was a quote where someone said that a national debt would be beneficial for America as long as it was manageable or something. That was Hamilton.

Answers:

  1. Difference btw New Deal/ Great society? Was it like the civil rights thing? yeup
  2. Conneticut compromise/convention? I don’t even remember the answer choices: representation
  3. Suspending writs of habeas corpus? Lincoln
  4. Land ordinance? no slavery
  5. the one about the korean war… the choices were like:
    a) guerilla warfare

the event in civil war that displayed racial, economic, and social tensions? city riots

someone check?

Yeah, I didn’t see the “cohesion of the union” part. >_<

I still think you guys are confused with the Taylorism

as I recall, Taylorism was an answer choice in the same question with Populism, and the answer was definitely populism (coinage of silver? should be easy), in fact its very likely that william jennings bryan was the person who was quoted.

In the bells and whistles question, Taylorism nor any other “isms” was even an answer choice, the correct answer was labor unions

someone check?

Populism was silver, poem was taylorism

Let me ask again, what did y’all put for “slaves against oppressive owners?” did they usually run way to north or revolted against owners? help please :)

ivycraze, the land ordinance had nothing to do with slavery, in the 1780s slavery was not such a large issue.

A quick google search confirms that the answer had to due with surveying and distributing land in the western frontier

Neither, it was that they developed a separate culture.

to the slavery one, i think it was they created their own unique african customs or something. most were not able to run away, and most didnt rebel, so they just formed their own culture

there was no western frontier though…??
[Northwest Ordinance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Northwest Ordinance - Wikipedia)
“There shall be neither slavery nor involuntary servitude in the said territory”.[3]

further inquiry on the taylorism,

If we are talking about the same question, the quote was a poem that described the generic and mechanical aspects of a worker’s work routine, right?

The question then prompted you to answer what the poem was pushing workers in favor of right?

Land ordinance? no slavery

i believe that is wrong…the northwest ordinance was the one that said no slavery. the land ordinance dealt with the surveying of lands.

dang it! thanks, ACTTester!

@Ivycraze: You’re confusing the Land Ordinance of 1785 and the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. The answer was definitely surveying property.

FloatesMcgoates, in the question that included an excerpt from a pamphlet that a factory handed out to its workers, the answer was TAYLORISM. The closest thing to “labor unions” was “union activities,” and a factory would most likely not promote unions within its own labor force.

selfindulgent, thanks for the clarification, it appears as though I was confusing 3 questions, one about populism, one about a poem that had bells and whistles in it, and this pamphlet, which I cannot remember for some reason.

oh shoot. that sux

yeah, pretty sure that poem was Taylorism.

@mcgoates

yes, those two questions are the ones being discussed.

  1. which group favored nationalization of railroads, free coinage of silver, and something else (i think direct election of senators)? the answer was the populists
  2. the poem should be taylorism. it was talking about a strict schedule (presumably to maximize efficiency). i don’t think a union has anything to do with it.

@ confused
slaves formed their own cultures. that’s the answer, i believe.
